Farley and Thompson 70th Anniversary
Stockbrokers Farley & Thompson held an evening concert in the great hall of Canford School on June 30th 2008 to celebrate the Firm’s 70th Anniversary. Michael Merridew and the other Partners welcomed Clients to a recital given by Nicholas Baragwanath at the piano and Annabelle Catley playing flute. The photograph below shows Michael Merridew greeting the Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Stephen Chappell. Stockbroker Martin Poole joined the other partners in the anniversary celebrations on the eve of his first day with the Firm.
Colin Chalkly-Maber, a Partner, recounted the 70 years of Farley & Thompson history, providing stock broking services from the time of limited telephone availability and regional stock markets through the computer revolution to today where the internet provides up to the second dealing systems. The means of doing business have changed in that 70 years, but what sets Farley & Thompson apart from its competitors is its independence, integrity and sharp focus on Clients’ needs. The Firm has continued to go from strength to strength, with a client base that has grown sharply through 2008, testament to Clients’ perception of the high level of, and high quality of service provided. The growth in Client numbers is clearly reflected in the take up of the Farley & Thompson ISA and the Farley & Thompson Nominee Service.
In addition, Farley & Thompson’s relationship with Solicitors and Accountants had both strengthened and increased markedly during the last few years because of the high level of service and customer focus in the stock broking service provided.
The photo below shows the audience’s warm response to Colin Chalkly-Maber’s humorous address, where he admitted that he had been an accountant, but that he had received treatment, recovered and was “Alright now!”
On the right hand side are the musicians who played a selection of pieces detailed at the bottom of this section.
During the course of the evening Farley & Thompson Clients made donations to the “Butterfly Appeal for About Face”, the local Charity that supports people who have suffered head or neck cancer. The £5250 raised during the evening was added to money collected for the refurbishment of the “About Face Centre” on Longfleet Road, Poole which was opened, as scheduled, at the end of 2008.
Ian Catley, who has been fund raising for the Charity, was taken aback by the size of the donation and thanked Farley & Thompson and their Clients for their generosity in supporting such a worthy cause. If you would like more information about the work of "About Face" you can contact Ian Catley on 01202 733300 or click on www.about-face.info .
Even the weather behaved on this special evening, treating everyone who attended to one of those special long, balmy, english midsummer evenings, which proved quite a rarity last summer. Added to that was the location of the anniversary celebration, Canford School, the former home of the Wimborne family. A number of Clients made favourable comments about how they had enjoyed the 70th anniversary celebration and found the location, weather and company very apt for the occasion.
