Colin read psychology at Aberdeen University. He trained as a chartered accountant, becoming a senior manager with PwC. During his early career, he enjoyed a secondment to manage a leprosy rehabilitation project for TEAR Fund in Kathmandu. In 1994, he became Finance Director at Frizzell Group. In 1999, Colin joined Farley & Thompson, becoming the Managing Partner shortly afterwards. Whilst underscoring the traditional values Farley & Thompson has always espoused, Colin has led on a number of modernising initiatives over the last 10 years. These include computerisation and working with Bournemouth University for Farley & Thompson to become one of only a handful of stockbroking organisations with paperless record keeping.
Colin is passionate about reducing social exclusion, and was for ten years Honorary Treasurer of Bournemouth Churches Housing Association (BCHA). He is married with 3 children, is involved with his local church, enjoys sailing and skiing.
Philip joined JP Morgan as a graduate in 1987 and spent the next ten years in both London and New York as a securities trader, specialising in fixed interest bonds. Subsequently, he worked as a private client advisor for both Prudential Bache and Barclays Stockbrokers before joining Farley & Thompson as a partner in 2003. Philip also has responsibility for the firm’s compliance monitoring and reporting.
He lives in Poole with his wife and 3 children. Philip is a trained educator for Evaluate, a Christian charity providing relationship education programmes in local secondary schools. A keen cyclist, his photo (right) was seen in The Times newspaper’s ‘City’ pages!
Martin joined Nat West bank from school, moving to the Middlesex financial services team at Black Horse (part of Lloyds TSB Group). There he widened his experience before moving to the City. Martin advised on equities for a further ten years, before he moved to the South Coast to join Farley & Thompson as a partner in 2008. Like each of our stockbroking team, Martin has a number of private clients, but he also oversees Farley & Thompson’s growing number of relationships with professionals – for example solicitors and accountants managing private trusts.
Together with his wife and two young sons, the Poole family live in Christchurch. Martin plays football regularly and also enthusiastically supports AFC Bournemouth.
With over 40 years experience in advising clients, stockbroker Steve Jeffery has covered virtually every discipline within the stockbroking profession. He began his career at Cotterell & Company, later working alongside Bob Hipkiss at Robson Cotterell. Steve’s research on particular stocks is noteworthy. We are happy to analyse companies’ past performances for our clients.
For five years, Steve played lead guitar and sang lead vocals with the soft rock band ‘Sails’. However, these days when time allows he is more likely to be found on the golf course. He holds a season ticket at AFC Bournemouth.
Bob joined Barclays after leaving Grammar School, working in Kidderminster, Birmingham and Cradley Heath. He went on to develop what has become a lifetime’s career in stockbroking, alongside Anthony Beaumont-Dark MP a partner at Smith Keen Barnett, eventually heading the investment department. Joining local firm Robson Cotterell 1977, Bob spent the next 25 years evolving his portfolio management experience. As a seasoned market watcher, Bob edits a market bulletin that is available on request.
Bob’s outside interests include using his season ticket at AFC Bournemouth and he also follows Poole Speedway. A keen golfer, Bob has been secretary of the Hardy B League which comprises thirty Dorset Golf Clubs.
Jamie earned his place on the stockbroking team following an innovative search by Farley & Thompson. A graduate of the University of Southampton Business School, Jamie was ‘apprenticed’ to the late Senior Partner, Michael Merridew and therefore gained the advantage of working with the best in the business. Now co operating with all the partners and stockbrokers across the team, Jamie will perfect his craft and has already passed his professional stockbroking exams.
Jamie is a keen golfer and a proud member of Parkstone Golf Club in Poole. He enjoys swimming and running to keep fit and is a keen motorcycle enthusiast.
